Master: A True Narrative of the Horrid Hellish Popish-Plot. To the Tune of PACKINGTON'S POUND Item: A True Narrative of the Horrid Hellish Popish-Plot. To the Tune of PACKINGTON'S POUND. The Second Pa 1682
The ‘discovery’ of the Popish Plot came at a time when the print market flourished and licensing laws were relaxed. Vast numbers of pamphlets and broadsides were available both supporting and denouncing Oates's claims. This broadside, priced at a shilling, satirises Oates's printed account, A True Narrative of the Horrid Plot and Conspiracy of the Popish Party (1679). The 12 engraved scenes liken Oates's testimony both to the false witnesses who testified against Christ and to Judas’s betrayal.
