This view is taken from Castle Hill, looking down towards the town, with a horse and carriage heading towards Datchet. The Town Gate was built in the reign of Elizabeth I and was removed in the nineteenth century. As in many of his watercolours, Sandby portrays an easy familiarity between soldiers and townspeople.
