MARCO RICCI (BELLUNO 1676-VENICE 1730)

A stage design: a fountain and the steps of a villa

c.1718-19

RCIN 905877

Marco Ricci produced many stage designs for the Venetian theatre. This design shows a garden scene, possibly for Fortunato Chelleri’s Amalasunta, performed in Venice in 1719. The inscription provides instructions about how the various panels or painted backcloths might be aligned in the finished set.
