The Arch of Titus in a fanciful setting

c.1740-60

RCIN 907523

This monumental arch is loosely based on the Arch of Titus in Rome, shown in a dilapidated state and covered in weeds. A small cottage built against its wall emphasises the arch's forgotten grandeur. A man in a fishing boat ignores the monument behind him.
