GIOVANNI BATTISTA PIAZZETTA (1682-1754)

A boy with a dog

c.1730-40

RCIN 990777

Piazzetta made many hundreds of chalk drawings of ‘character heads’, which were framed and hung on the walls like paintings. The drawings are neither portraits nor straightforward allegories, and this young boy with a small dog loosely references innocence, playfulness and loyalty. Traces of the original blue of the paper are visible at the edge of the sheet.
