CANALETTO (VENICE 1697-VENICE 1768)

4: The Grand Canal looking west from the Palazzo Vendramin-Calergi towards San Geremia

c.1727

RCIN 406982

Canaletto has eliminated the curve of the left bank to make buildings more visible. Many aspects of daily life are here, from the ships of commerce to the washing hung out, to the soberly dressed gentleman about to leave Palazzo Vendramin.
