Canaletto & the Art of Venice in cinemas

ITV programme

On Thursday, 4 January, a new ITV series, Great Art, will feature an episode on the recent exhibition at The Queen's Gallery, Canaletto & the Art of Venice, and highlight the unparalleled holdings of works by Canaletto in the Royal Collection, as well as how Canaletto's art was influenced by the city.  The content has been adapted from the recent feature-length film shown in cinemas in the UK and worldwide.

The programme airs on ITV1 at 10.45.

Cinema screenings

On 26 September 2017, Exhibition on Screen will broadcast a documentary film of Canaletto & the Art of Venice, directed by David Bickerstaff, in cinemas around the world. This first feature-length film of an exhibition from the Royal Collection includes interviews with Royal Collection Trust curators and behind-the-scenes footage of preparations for the exhibition, all shot in ultra HD 4K.

Cinema-goers will embark on their very own 21st-century Grand Tour, visiting the sites enjoyed by their 18th-century counterparts and immortalised in Canaletto’s views - from the Rialto Bridge to the Piazza San Marco, and the Palazzo Ducale to the Church of Santi Giovanni e Paolo. Guided by Royal Collection Trust curators and the world’s leading experts in Venetian history, the film is not only a wonderful way to see the exhibition, but an opportunity to get closer to Canaletto and the city that inspired him.

More information, including a list of venues that will be showing the film, can be found on the Exhibition on Screen website.
