FRANCIS BEDFORD (1815-94)

The Baptistry of Canterbury Cathedral, 1855

1855

RCIN 2906216

This photograph is from an album of views collected and compiled by Prince Albert. The Prince was particularly enthusiastic in his patronage of early British photographers and purchased works from Photographic Society exhibitions, as well as directly from the photographers. A photograph with this title was exhibited in early 1856. It was reviewed as ‘a gem, perfect in execution, and of those “choice bits” which the true artist appears so frequently to stumble upon’. Acquired by Prince Albert, probably 1857
