FRANCIS BEDFORD (1815-94)

Part of the pavillion of the King in the Temple Palace, Medeenet Abou [Medinet Habu]

18 Mar 1862

RCIN 2700898

The large mortuary temple for Ramesses III was directly connected with the royal palace as part of a vast complex which would have housed many people. The surviving ruins suggest that it was fortified – this gateway would have been the main entrance for the entire complex, and it shows features commonly found in fortresses of this period. Acquired by the Prince of Wales, 1862
