29 Apr 1862

RCIN 2700961

The Prince wrote in his journal that ‘the court outside the Mosque and the Mosque itself are very striking. … We went up the highest minaret belonging to the mosque and had a splendid view of the town and surrounding country, as the day was very fine.’ The Prince also visited the tomb of Salah ad-Din, which was in a garden next to the mosque. Acquired by the Prince of Wales, 1862
