After meeting 'Abd al-Qadir, the Prince was taken to see the ruins of the Christian quarter in Damascus. The whole quarter had been burnt to the ground and it was believed that more than 3,000 Christians were killed over the course of three days. The dome of the Great Mosque can be seen in the distance, across the ruins.
