FRANCIS BEDFORD (1815-94)

Church of the Holy Sepulchre [Jerusalem]

6 Apr 1862

RCIN 2700933

Returning to Jerusalem, Bedford photographed the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the building constructed over the site of Christ’s Crucifixion, burial and Resurrection. Whilst the earliest church here was begun in the fourth century, numerous additions and repairs have been made over many years. The space inside the church is divided up between six different Christian denominations. Acquired by the Prince of Wales, 1862
