At the time of the Prince’s visit, Greece was ruled by King Otto I, the second son of King Ludwig I of Bavaria. He was elected as the first King of modern Greece in 1832, but his rule was beset with problems. On 23 October 1862, the King was deposed, only a few months after the Prince’s visit. He lived in exile in Bavaria until his death in 1867. Acquired by the Prince of Wales, 1862
