FRANCIS BEDFORD (1815-94)

A Chart illustrating the Architecture of Westminster Abbey / by F. Bedford Jnr.

c1843

RCIN 2508548

This fold-out architectural guide was created by Francis Bedford at the beginning of his career before he took up photography. He produced several architectural guides in the 1840s. They were low cost, simple publications, aimed at middle-class tourists visiting cathedrals and churches across Britain. Bedford was comfortable with architectural terms and descriptions, having learnt from his architect father Francis Octavius Bedford (1784–1858).
