CRISPIN VAN DEN BROECK (1524-91)

Christ Healing the Sick

Signed and dated 1577

RCIN 405524

This painting depicts Christ healing a blind man, surrounded by witnesses, while to the right an evil spirit, like a winged lizard, leaves the mouth of a possessed man. Van den Broeck emulated Venetian Renaissance painting by employing large figures, thick paint and vivid colour.
