Known as ‘Velvet’ Brueghel due to his rich colour palette and exquisite technique, Jan Brueghel was the younger son of Pieter Bruegel the Elder. Adam and Eve are shown as small figures here, the focus of the painting being the remarkable array of animals inhabiting an imaginative vision of paradise.
