MARCUS ADAMS (1875-1959)

Princess Elizabeth with her mother, The Duchess of York, July 1929.

30 Jul 1929

RCIN 2999916

This portrait of the two-year-old Princess with her mother was taken at the photographer’s studio at 43 Dover Street in London. Adams would regularly visit the royal residences for sittings, but often better results were achieved in the studio, where he could employ all his equipment (including painted backdrops) to create a soft and romantic atmosphere that intentionally evoked memories of painted portraits by Reynolds and Gainsborough.
