FREDERICK THURSTON & SON (1854-1933)

Princess Elizabeth of York with her grandmother, the Countess of Strathmore, 1927

1927

RCIN 2999917

During the six-month royal visit to Australia in early 1927, Princess Elizabeth was looked after by her grandparents – particularly by her mother’s mother, the Countess of Strathmore (1862-1938). This photograph was taken at St Paul’s Walden Bury, the home of the Bowes Lyon family near Hitchin in Hertfordshire, close to Luton where Thurston was based.
