Princess Elizabeth had been appointed Colonel of the Grenadier Guards on her sixteenth birthday in 1942. On her eighteenth birthday, Colonel J.A. Prescott of the Grenadier Guards presented the Princess with her Colonel’s Colour in a ceremony at Windsor Castle. The actual Colour with which she was presented can be seen in the Guard Chamber in the State Apartments at Windsor Castle.
