HM Queen Elizabeth II with Commonwealth Heads of Government at Buckingham Palace

1977

RCIN 2999846

Meetings of the Commonwealth Heads of Government (CHOGM) take place approximately every two years. Although The Queen does not attend the opening ceremony or any of the sessions, whenever possible she will host a reception and dinner during the conference period. She also takes the opportunity to hold private meetings with each of the leaders present. In 1977 the meeting took place in London. On other occasions CHOGM has met in Commonwealth countries including Canada, Nigeria, Singapore, Australia and India.

This photograph was taken in the White Drawing Room at Buckingham Palace. Seated at either side of The Queen are Archbishop Makarios, President of Cyprus; and James Callaghan, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
