HM Queen Elizabeth II in Kenya

Nov 1983

RCIN 2880517

In November 1983 The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh made a State Visit to Kenya as guests of President Arap Moi. During their stay they were able to revisit Sagana Lodge where they had stayed on their first visit to Kenya in February 1952, and where The Queen had received the news of her father’s death and of her own accession to the throne.

Formerly part of British East Africa, Kenya moved from Colony and Protectorate to independence (1963). However, it remains a member of the Commonwealth.
