Exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1947, the year of the sitter’s 21st birthday and marriage, the bust was modelled in the previous year. The Scottish sculptor William Reid Dick was responsible for sixteen official portraits of royalty, including the effigies of King George V and Queen Mary and the profile of King George VI in St George’s Chapel, Windsor.
