Welcoming everyone

Every year around 500,000 people visit Buckingham Palace during August and September.

The income from visitors to the Palace is used to care for the Royal Collection and promote public access and enjoyment of the Collection through exhibitions, loans and educational activities.

A key consideration for the staff working at Buckingham Palace is how to ensure that the paintings and works of art on display are cared for and maintained for future generations.

The upkeep of the Palace is the responsibility of the Property Section within the Royal Household, while the contents form part of the Royal Collection and are cared for by a team of curators and conservators.

All Household staff working in the building and using the historic contents within it are fully trained in how to use them in order to best preserve them.
