This mantel clock represents Apollo in his chariot riding his four horses over the arc of heaven. It symbolises the passage of the sun through the sky, with the dial of the clock in the chariot wheel. It was purchased by George IV in 1810 and before coming to Buckingham Palace had been displayed at Carlton House, Royal Lodge at Windsor and the Royal Pavilion at Brighton.
