This slate plaque, in the stylised shape of the continent of Australia, depicts a hunting scene. It was presented to Queen Elizabeth II by Albert Barunga and his wife (c. 1910-1977) on the occasion of her Silver Jubilee in 1977. A Presbyterian minister and community leader from Western Australia, in the late 1960s Barunga became a firm supporter of Indigenous rights throughout Australia, and campaigned for the preservation of sacred sites in the country. He was also a keen advocate of Indigenous arts and crafts and supported organisations which sought to protect and encourage traditional art forms in Western Australia.
