A punch dagger or katar with a broad steel blade, thickened at the point with a sunken panel chiselled on each side in the centre of with a cypress tree. The steel transverse grip of two bars and sideguards overlaid with gold in floral designs.  The term 'punch dagger' is derived from the action with which it is used, with an upright fist gripping the double crossbars.
