Model veena

1990-97

RCIN 94120

A white and yellow metal model of a veena in a Perspex case with a wooden base. The finial is in the form of a stylised dog.

The veena is a classical stringed instrument from southern India. It is closely associated with Saraswati, the Hindu goddess of music and learning, who is often depicted playing it. As the strings are plucked, they vibrate against the flat bridge, producing a distinctive buzzing sound known as javārī.
