Dagger and scabbard 1750 - 1800
RCIN 11264
A jade-hilted dagger such as this was considered an object of luxury in India and was probably commissioned by a wealthy patron. The gemstones are inset into the jade by using strips of highly refined gold, or kundan, to secure the stones using pressure rather than heat.
It was presented to King Edward VII, when Prince of Wales, during his tour of India in 1875-76.
