The Queen has met every President of the United States of America during her reign except Lyndon B. Johnson. This plate and bowl were a gift from President George W. Bush and Mrs Laura Bush during their State Visit to the United Kingdom in 2003.

The Lenox China Company was founded by Walter Scott Lenox (1859–1920) in 1889 and specialised in exclusive tableware. The firm produced its first presidential dinner service in 1918, for Woodrow Wilson. It continued to supply china for the White House throughout the twentieth century.
