Billy Stockman Tjapaltjarri (c.1927–2015) was one of the founders of the Australian Papunya Tula Art Movement in the early 1970s. Papunya Tula has its roots in the sacred art of the Western Desert and has become recognisable worldwide as a symbol of contemporary indigenous art. Tjapaltjarri has painted this work with emblems of dreams and inscribed the boomerang: A very special boomerang made and painted by Billy Stockman. He presented it to Queen Elizabeth II during one of her visits to Australia.
