The cock of this gun is in the form of a tiger’s head. It was presented to George III by Lord Mornington, Governor-General of India, in 1800 and was said to have been taken from Tipu’s bedchamber after the capture of Seringapatam. According to contemporary reports, ‘it was placed there for the horrid purpose of shooting the English prisoners that might fall in his hands’.
