Chief Wilma Mankiller (1945–2010) was the first female Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation, the largest tribal nation in the United States of America. During The Queen’s State Visit in May 1991, Mankiller presented her with this beaded feather and a black earthenware pot featuring 'Uktena', the horned serpent of Cherokee mythology.
