Henry Holiday, a follower of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, is one of the older generation of contributors to the collection of drawings and watercolours in the Dolls’ House. Together with his wife Kate and daughter Winifred he had been a keen supporter of the Suffragette movement. The influence of the Pre-Raphaelites and the closely aligned Arts and Crafts Movement are evident in this allegorical illustration which takes the form of an illuminated initial from a medieval manuscript.
