Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House and the changing status of women in the 1920s

Diana Meditating c.1923
RCIN 927481

Dora Webb’s portrayal of the goddess Diana imagines her at rest, meditating. The attenuated forms of an idealised mythological figure have been replaced by the limbs of a more solid and grounded individual, perhaps based on drawings after a real artist’s model with studio props. A member of the Royal Miniature Society, Dora Webb contributed ten watercolours to Queen Mary’s collection in the Dolls’ House, with subjects ranging from topographical views and horses, to royal portraiture.
