The Prince is standing outside Government House, Charlottetown, Canada, with a group of gentlemen, also in military dress and feathered hats. The group includes Lieutenant Governor Dundas, Mrs Dundas, and Lieutenant Colonels Gray and Swabey, alongside members of the Prince's household. The Prince of Wales arrived at Charlottetown on the 9th of August 1860. The following day there was a levee at Government House in the morning, and a reception in the evening. A notice in the Morning Freeman newspaper, dated 27 October 1860, announced that "A photograph of HRH the Prince of Wales and Suite, at the Government House at Charlottetown, P.E. Island, has been put on exhibition at McMillan's Book Store by Mrs Macready. The photograph was taken by Mr. Chase, of Halifax, who went to the Island for that purpose, and it is the best that has been taken while the Prince was in this country". The photograph has the inscription 'October 1860' on the mount, but this date is impossible. By October, the Prince was reaching the end of his tour in the US.
