This book is one of an eight-volume set edited by the Shakespearean actor Sir Henry Irving, who in 1895 became the f irst actor to be knighted. Irving presented the volumes to Queen Mary when she was Duchess of York, as a gift on her marriage to the future King George V in 1893. The actor inscribed the f irst volume to her with a quote from Othello.
