This is London as Shakespeare probably first knew it. This map, though published in 1588, shows a view of London with elements from the 1560s and 1570s. Southwark, on the south side of the Thames, was where a Londoner went for entertainment, and is where Shakespeare’s Globe theatre would later be located.
