AFTER DANIEL GARDNER (1750-1805)

Catherine Bunbury and Mary Gwynne, in the 'Merry Wives of Windsor'.

published 20 Jan 1780

RCIN 651615

The friendship between Mistress Ford and Mistress Page conveyed by Shakespeare in his play is hinted at in this mezzotint print of the sisters Catherine Bunbury and Mary Gwyn, noted beauties, who are shown in the characters of the two Merry Wives of Windsor. The sisters were often in Windsor as their husbands worked at court.
