Pot-pourri vase and cover (pot-pourri à vaisseau or pot-pourri en navire)

RCIN 2360

This pot-pourri was almost certainly originally owned by Madame de Pompadour, the mistress of the French king Louis XV. Its name reflects the inspiration for the shape, a boat’s hull. This scene has not yet been attributed to any known works by Teniers, or other Dutch artists of the same period. First recorded in the Royal Collection at Carlton House in 1826.

The income from your ticket contributes directly to The Royal Collection Trust, a registered charity. The aims of The Royal Collection Trust are the care and conservation of the Royal Collection, and the promotion of access and enjoyment through exhibitions, publications, loans and educational activities.
