SÈVRES PORCELAIN FACTORY

Gobelet litron

RCIN 58200

This cup and saucer feature two different scenes, which historically were believed to be after the work of the Dutch artist Philips Wouwermans (c.1619 – 1668). This would have appealed to George IV, who owned nine works by Wouwermans. Subsequent research has identified these scenes as from a painting by C.W. Weisbrod. Acquired by George IV from Joseph Fogg, 1828. The bill reads ‘A [very fine blue ground Seve Cup and Saucer] with Wouvermans Medallion.’
