GODFRIED SCHALCKEN (MADE 1643-THE HAGUE 1706)

A Family Concert

RCIN 405337

Schalcken depicts himself standing in the background, introducing this image of family harmony, with three generations of musicians following the beat given by the lady of the house. In this early work we see Schalcken using a pale, evocative light to reveal the rich surfaces of fabrics, metalwork and furniture. Acquired by George IV in 1810 Cat. 19
