A Courtyard in Delft at Evening: a Woman spinning

RCIN 405331

De Hooch records a modest courtyard in Delft with a glimpse of the ‘New Church’ and the Town Hall in the background. He also records an effect of direct sunlight in a completely new way, through strong tonal contrasts, crisp shadows and bright colours. Acquired by George IV in 1829 Cat. 5
