WORKSHOP OF MARIA SIBYLLA MERIAN (1647-1717)

Still life with flowers tied at the stems

c.1705?

RCIN 921234

This still-life composition is typical of the type of work produced by female artists at the turn of the eighteenth century. Such drawings were popular with collectors, who pasted them into albums or framed them for hanging on walls. Although Merian produced similar works, this is probably by one of her daughters, as it does not show the accuracy in the depiction of insects which is typical of Merian’s work.
