Fishmarket at Brighthelmstone

This study of the shore at Brighton (then known as Brighthelmstone) shows freshly caught fish being sold on the beach. It may have been made from studies taken by Rowlandson on his trip to the town with Henry Wigstead, which was to form the basis of the illustrated publication 'An Excursion to Brighthelmstone'.
