SIR NORMAN HARTNELL (1901-79)

Evening gown

1967

RCIN 100049

Worn for the centennial celebrations of the Confederation of Canada, Ottawa, 1 July 1967. This striking dress has a plain white bodice terminating in an inverted V-shaped band of blue and silver embroidery in a design of maple leaves and berries. The incorporation of maple leaves, the national emblem of Canada, was a fitting compliment to the Canadian people.
