An introduction to Fabergé in the Royal Collection
Frame with an enamelled view of Sandringham Church
RCIN 40494
Although much smaller than the frame with a view of Sandringham House, this complements it in both the choice of materials and the technique of the sepia enamelled view. The royal family has worshipped at the parish church of St Mary Magdalene, Sandringham since King Edward VII, as Prince of Wales, purchased the estate in 1863. This frame was purchased by Earl Howe (1861–1929), from Fabergé's London branch on 24 December 1908 for £35, and was almost certainly a Christmas present for Queen Alexandra that same year. Lord Howe served as Queen Alexandra’s Lord Chamberlain from 1903 to 1925.
