The National Portrait Gallery is staging the first major exhibition for a generation devoted to the leading Elizabethan miniature painters, Nicholas Hilliard and Isaac Oliver. Portrait miniatures by both artists have been lent from the Royal Collection to this exhibition, which is on display until 19th May. Highlights include one of the most famous images in British art, Isaac Oliver's A Young Man Seated Under a Tree, and a late portrait miniature of Elizabeth I by Nicholas Hilliard, with whom the Queen is known to have shared a close working relationship in the fashioning of the royal image.

Other items from the Royal Collection are on long-term loan to the National Portrait Gallery.
