A pencil drawing showing a view of a royal party taking tea in a snow storm. Three figures, possibly Queen Victoria and her daughters Princess Louise and Princess Beatice, are shown seated under umbrellas. A man in Highland dress is shown bent over an outdoor stove in front of them. Inscribed below mounted sheet: Tea in a snow storm in Glen Beg - Oct: 1866.
This sketchbook has been mounted and rebound, it is possible that Queen Victoria made a mistake with the date when writing the new inscriptions on the folios. In her journal entry of 19 October 1865, Queen Victoria describes how she "drove with Louise & Baby [Princess Beatrice] to Glen Beg, where we took our tea, & just as we sat down it came to snow heavily, making everything white, & we had to put up our umbrellas. Baby was much amused". -
