Round, lead urn with pronounced gadrooned waist, with a band of scolling acanthus centred on two faun heads, with scrolling handles terminating in female nudes with folded arms. Waisted foot cast with acanthus leaves.
Provenance
These urns are a set commissioned by William III for the Privy Garden at Hampton Court Palace, where all but one of the surviving examples stand today. During the nineteenth century, they were removed by George IV to Windsor Castle, where one remains in the Moat Garden, and in the twentieth century they were returned to Hampton Court Palace.
