-
A watercolour of the Private Chapel at Windsor Castle after the 1992 fire. The Private Chapel was created for Queen Victoria in 1842, and was the location of the start of the fire on 20 November 1992. This watercolour shows the chapel reredos, with a view through the damaged roof to scaffolding and the sky beyond. A view by Creswell of the Lantern Lobby which replaced the chapel is RCIN 933496.
Alexander Creswell was invited to record the interiors of Windsor in the aftermath of the fire. In 1999 he produced a companion series of watercolours depicting the restored interiors.Provenance
